artist statementI am motivated by an insatiable desire to learn & understand, to search for answers, and to explore. My personal satisfaction and fulfillment come from constant change and continuous evolution. Painting and creative practice are the methods I use to guarantee my progression as a human being and fuel my mental health & overall wellbeing.
I am viscerally impassioned by color. The mere process of setting up my materials preparing to work that day changes my world, serenity sets in. All conscious thinking dissipates, and I become completely submerged in the now, an entirely different state of mind from the day to day business we all encounter. Through intuitive painting I am able to express intangibles of the human spirit, it's essence, with truth and honesty, put on vulnerable display. Exposing your innermost self to the public is often uncomfortable, however, the reward of remaining authentic to your true nature is incredibly rewarding. biographyKaren Isailovic is a creative visionary, born and raised in Maryland. Beginning in 2002 she began training as a painter through courses in the continuing studies departments at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. After exploring multiple genres and mediums, in 2015 Karen dove deep into abstract painting.
She opened Root Studio in Columbia in 2017 with plans to find a permanent home in Catonsville in 2020. The Covid 19 pandemic put finding a new permanent studio space on hold. Karen is the mother to two grown daughters and the former business owner of Prime Corporation, which she ran successfully from 1991 - 2001. |
